I'm convinced one of these people is my ex-boyfriend. And since there's only one person whose face you can't see I think you can guess which one. Oh, that was such a mercy dating situation...
If I can spare you the trouble, allow me to say that if you don't want to go out with someone then you just shouldn't do it. If you do want to go out with someone then you should go for it. Simple as that. If you are unsure which way you're waffling on the matter then it's safe to say you shouldn't do it or you should ask Poppy for advice.

OK, what if you think you've finally decided you don't want to go out with someone, but you've already gone on eight or so dates with that someone first. THEN what do you do? I have very little experience with this situation. Help me, Poppy-Wan; you're my only hope.

Seriously, I'd just be honest and tell him that I tried to make this work but I'm must not feeling that there is any continued future between you. Thanks for the dates, you're great, it's not you it's me. Make sure to do this in a public place or over the phone in case he has a dark side. That part is not negotiable.
