An unknown number of cats and dogs suffered kidney failure and about 10 died after eating the affected pet food, Menu Foods said in announcing the North American recall. Product testing has not revealed a link explaining the reported cases of illness and death, the company said.”

I'm finding the reporting on this story incredibly annoying because for about a day, none of the news sources were naming any brands, just saying "some wet food sold at (various stores)," and now the brands being named vary depending on who's reporting it. I've seen listed both generic store brands, as well as premium foods like Iams and Hills Science, but not mass market names like Purina and Friskies (which is what my cat eats). Nonetheless, since no one seems to know exactly which foods are doing it or why, probably the best thing for everyone is just to keep a close eye on their pets, and get them to a vet quickly if their food seems to be making them sick. Which, ha, yeah, your animals will love that.
