Yow.

Hi, so, apparently several days back my lip got caught in my braces. I have a vague memory of this, but to drive the memory home further, I have a canker sore-type thingy on my lip that REALLY hurts. The normal tricks to get rid of it are not working, and it hurts as much today as it did when I started Listerining and Anbesoling it. Curses!

I am, unfortunately, a canker sore veteran for way back.

Wanna suggestion?

Take a vitamin C capsule, break it or cut it in half and press it directly on the sore. This will burn like a sumbitch while you're doing it, but afterwards it will feel better. For awhile.

Maybe this falls into the category of banging your head against a wall because it feels good when you stop; I'm not sure.

Or, they make this stuff that's really expensive, but forms a kind of protective seal over it (if you can keep from poking at it with your tongue, which I almost never can) for a couple of hours. But I can't remember what it's called, so that's not such a useful piece of advice.

Love the blog, by the way -- this is my first comment, but I've been lurking. Can't even recall how I found you.

That brings back some not-so-fun memories. I had braces as a teenager--had to wear the headgear and all at night.

Much sympathy!

I've found that NOTHING helps a canker sore...you just have to leave it alone and it has to go away on it's own. I get them when I am stressed so I'd be in SO much pain during finals...ugh.

you could try putting some wax over the braces near the canker sore. at least that would take the pain away from the canker sore rubbing on your brackets.
