Good curry recipe?

I love curry but I've only made it a few times myself, always using premade sauce from the grocery store until tonight when I tried making it from scratch and it completely lacked the wow factor. Man, it smells delish, but it sure didn't taste that powerful. If you have a great recipe for making curry sauce please please please share. Any recipe except the one from Better Homes and Gardens, which is what I used tonight. Thanks!!

The jar is a better way to go.. well, I guess it depends on the curry. My in-laws are all about pre-packaged, pre-made Indian food. For the level of effort to make stuff from scratch... the jar is easier.

What jar did you use?

Speaking as a woman married to an Indian man...

I have a few suggestions.

If you have a Trader Joe's near you, I highly recommend ANY of their Indian simmer sauces. ANY OF THEM. They are wonderful. I play around and augment them for quick meals.

If you are hell bent on making stuff from scratch, I highly recommend you get yourself ONE book and it's Betty Crocker's Indian Home Cooking by Raghavan Iyer. Trust me, trust me, trust me... it's all good!! I enjoy the fish poached in coconut milk and I love the Shrimp with Mint sauce, too. It's all wonderful. Great pictures and they don't have recipes in metric. Great great book.

One more thing, you might want to check out http://naughtycurry.com/, and perhaps maybe stop off at my recipe blog:
