Found this over at Laurie's blog:

You scored as Moya (Farscape). You are surrounded by muppets. But that is okay because they are your friends and have shown many times that they can be trusted. Now if only you could stop being bothered about wormholes.

Jake Gyllenhaal does Dreamgirls on SNL

I was looking for this at 8:00am this morning, but of course it was nowhere to be found. Now it's every-freakin'-where, including here:

Jake's arms are yummy. The wig is awful. The last long note is awesome.

Do you see what I see? (refrain)

I love Tom's Astronomy Blog because he introduces me to totally rad things such as baby stars. The stars themselves are captivating, but the part I can't stop staring at is the little boy's face I see in this photo. Someone on Tom's blog mentioned faces plural, and I do finally see a second face if I stare long enough, but I prefer to just see the one face.

The photo:

The photo showing what I see as the face:

The eye, nose, and mouth are to the right of my wording. The eye is closed, the nose has a nostril, and the mouth is closed (rosebud lips).

Questions about aging

Why are my toes no longer straight? Does that mean I have arthritis?

Have I always had all these lines on my hands?!

Why does fluorescent light need to be so cruel about showing every. single. frown line between my eyes? And, were those there last year? Because, I don't remember those...

When did my finger nails turn into my mom's finger nails?

Why do I have aches and pains every day? Could I have a break, please?

Why is it that the grey hair falling across my forehead cannot control itself and stay straight?

Is my night vision getting worse? Or, are headlights getting brighter?

When did teenagers become scary?

When did my butt get so big?!

I guess that's all I have for now. I need to hurry up and have kids so that people don't mistake me for their grandmother...

We have two winners!

Leona Lewis killed it (so to speak) with her rendition of Kelly Clarkson's winning song, A Moment Like This, but I have yet to enjoy any Idol winner's first song. What is American Idol doing about this?

Untalented singers who fail spectacularly in the early auditions are so bad they make for good television. Forcing talented finalists to perform such forgettable tunes as "Do I Make You Proud"? That's just plain awful.

To remedy this flaw in Fox's hit TV show, which begins its sixth season Tuesday and Wednesday, a song-writing competition to be decided by viewers is in the works.

"At the end of it, the country will not only have the singer they want, they'll have the song they want," said Ken Warwick, a series executive producer.

[...]

"We are very close to putting it (the song contest) in place," Martha Brass, executive vice president for series producer 19 Entertainment, said from London.

"It's just a question of not wanting to get it out there too soon so that we lose enthusiasm and momentum," Brass said. "Given there are five months left, we want to make sure that we introduce it at the right time." (continued at Yahoo!)

Thank goodness. So anticlimactic to have the winner singing a sucky song. The billionth sixth season of American Idol starts this Tuesday at 8pm on Fox. Don't forget to ruin your dinner over at MJ's AI spoiler site.

Bindi Irwin on The Ellen Degeneres Show

I hope her mom lets her know that it's okay for her to grow up to be her own person, that she doesn't actually have to be (just like) Steve. But, she's a girl after my own heart -- compassionate toward all Earth's creatures, even the ones in our bellies.

Netflix is throttling us. (Well, maybe.)

We returned a movie on January 3 and have not received its replacement. After reporting it missing we were told we were being sent another movie that was supposed to arrive on Thursday. Nope. Then we were sent another movie to replace a movie we received, watched, and returned in less time than it took for this January 3 movie to be received back to Netflix, and now that movie was promised to us for today but it was not in the mailbox.

I'm mad. I don't know if it's Netflix or if it's the post office, but now Monday is another holiday so the soonest we'll get any more movies is Tuesday.

I've threatened to kick some ass and switch to Blockbuster, but we all know I'm not gonna do either one. Just pisses me off because I love watching movies and when I don't have any to watch I get grumpy. *grumpy-mumble-grumble*

Finally, look at the bottom of your iTunes window. How many days of music do you have?
5.3 days, which is totally unreflective of my entire music collection. We have so many CDs that the two CD racks we do have are completely filled and the rest are crawling all over the living room floor, filling up multiple Rubbermaid bins, and scattered all over Hay's desk. I do try to get my albums from iTunes now so that I don't add to the problem. I have no guess at how many days' worth of music I'd have if every album I loved were in my iTunes.

Ugly office ice cream

The Office was phenomenal last night.

Did anyone else notice on Ugly Betty last night that Becki Newton, the actress who plays Amanda, is also playing Ruthie, the girl who sits across from Betty's new desk as exec assistant to Salma Hayek's character, Sofia? I love how this show can take beautiful people and make them really not.

I am glad this week is over. It was pleasant busy, but still very busy.

I could use a bowl of chocolate ice cream. Who's with me?

Spring cleaning in the winter

So, I've moved a bunch of blogs that I wasn't actually reading frequently out of the "blogs I just can't live without" section and renamed that section "... for now". It feels cleansing but fills me with some guilt. I'll live with that. If I moved you out of that section and you noticed then I'm sorry. I can't keep adding to that section forever or else it's a dishonest reflection and/or all I do 24/7 is read blogs. Yaaay, blog.

Now hear this

Justin Timberlake is officially single. (I know I'm late in reporting, but I don't like posting something untrue and have to retract it after.)

Maybe he and Drew could get together?

Speaking of single, NotCarrie emailed me to let me know that her site is doing a date bidding auction to raise money for V-Day, “a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. V-Day is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations. V-Day generates broader attention for the fight to stop violence against women and girls, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation (FGM) and sexual slavery.” I am very happily married, so I won't be bidding on a boy, but if you'd like to bid on one then please go to The Not Girls' Charity Auction. Thank you, and good night.

Ain't no Julie Andrews

I guess I've been blogging long enough for this to happen by now... Have you ever stopped loving a blog and wanted to just slowly back away from visiting and commenting on it, but didn't quite know how? How about remove it from your blogroll because it no longer represents you or your interests? How about stop conversing with said blogger because you have absolutely nothing in common anymore? Yah. Well. That's happening for me.

Q: Do I have the testicles to take the blog off my blogroll?
A: I don't have testicles.

I sound like a total bitch, don't I. *sigh* Real me, right here. Not all kittens and lollipops.

Not really a great time to be a technology editor.

First it was CNet's James Kim versus the elements. Now it's PC World's Rex Farrance versus 4 armed intruders:

PITTSBURG, California (AP) -- A senior editor for PC World Magazine was fatally shot in his home in what authorities said Wednesday was a drug-related attack.

Rex Farrance, 59, the San Francisco, California-based magazine's senior technical editor, was shot in the chest after four masked men broke into his home Tuesday evening, Pittsburg police said.

The assailants also pistol-whipped Farrance's wife, Lenore Vantosh-Farrance, 56, a registered nurse. She called 911, but the attackers fled before officers arrived. No one has been arrested, officials said.

"We have substantial reason to believe that the victim and his wife were involved in the possession and, potentially, the distribution of illegal narcotics," said Pittsburg police Inspector John Conaty, who declined to specify what type of drugs were involved.

The couple's son, Sterling Farrance, 19, blasted the police assertion that they were involved with illegal drugs, saying he grew and stored medical marijuana at the home with his parents' permission.

"I have a prescription. I'm a patient. It was medical," Sterling Farrance told the San Francisco Chronicle. "This one officer I remember at the house, he had this predisposition to think it was all illegal."

Colleagues at PC World described Farrance as a fitness buff, rock-music fan and a dedicated husband and father who excelled at his job.

"We're all in shock here," said Denny Arar, a PC World senior editor. "Rex loved his work. He really cared about covering technology in a way that was useful for readers. He cared a lot about people, period, including his co-workers." (CNN)

What?! Noooooooo..... :(

Drew Barrymore and Fabrizio Moretti have broken up. :( Phooey. Well, at least Drew knows when something isn't working. Bright side. Right? And, now everyone has a chance with her... Phooey again.

This, that, the other thing

Tom Skerritt is the face of Windows Vista. He also plays the husband of Nora (Sally Field) on precisely one episode of Brothers & Sisters before his character dies of a heart attack. Tom and Sally were the parents of Julia Roberts in Steel Magnolias so throughout the first episode of Brothers & Sisters all I could think of was Tom shooting the birds, going to the bathroom and leaving his gun out, and other crazy hijinx. I'm not happy that someone died, but I am glad that the show didn't perpetuate the relationship between Tom and Sally's characters so that I didn't have to boycott the show. Don't get me wrong, I love Steel Magnolias, but you don't just throw two actors together because they worked in a movie 18 years ago. Sacred. Leave it be.

And, on a totally local level: It took us twice our normal commute time to drive into the town where I work because of a quickly passing* snow storm that caused really poor visibility, really backed up traffic, people to go off roads, and roads to be closed until the storm passed* while the roads were cleared to make them passable*. When we couldn't “get there from here” Hay turned around and brought me to his work until the storm passed* and the roads were cleared. We used to work together a very long time ago, so it was like old times. Ahh, memories...

Okay, seriously, why am I so hungry? I need to eat another burrito. I think 2007 is the year of the burrito for me.

What else does it kill?

I know, I keep stuffing news up here. It's what's on my mind, so here we go again:

How spicy foods can kill cancers

Scientists have discovered the key to the ability of spicy foods to kill cancer cells.

They found capsaicin, an ingredient of jalapeno peppers, triggers cancer cell death by attacking mitochondria - the cells' energy-generating boiler rooms.

[...]

The study showed that the family of molecules to which capsaicin belongs, the vanilloids, bind to proteins in the cancer cell mitochondria to trigger apoptosis, or cell death, without harming surrounding healthy cells.

Capsaicin was tested on cultures of human lung cancer cells and on pancreatic cancers.

Lead researcher Dr Timothy Bates said: "As these compounds attack the very heart of the tumour cells, we believe that we have in effect discovered a fundamental 'Achilles heel' for all cancers.

"The biochemistry of the mitochondria in cancer cells is very different from that in normal cells.

"This is an innate selective vulnerability of cancer cells."

He said a dose of capsaicin that could cause a cancer cell to enter apoptosis, would not have the same effect on a normal cell. (continued)

I like spicy food. I'm not awesome with hot, but mild and medium are all over the inside of my tummy. Num!!! Of course, the capsaicin is in the seeds that I remove to make the pepper less hot. Silly me. :)

La Belgique

If you want to see the progress of a guy who drinks a different beer every day for a year then go visit Dann, who has already critiqued my favorite of the non-flavored beers, Stella Artois. I don't really drink anymore, but back when I did I enjoyed her for one night of sinful delight. I still think of her fondly. My favorite flavored beer is a strawberry ale, also from Belgium. I have a thing about Belgium. It's my Eeyore. Eeyore is my favorite Pooh character. I enjoy a good melancholy session.

Hit man to Pittsburgh professionals: Pay up or die

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (AP) -- Dentists, doctors, lawyers and other professionals in the Pittsburgh area have been targeted by a "hit man" e-mail scheme, receiving messages that tell them to pay up to spare their lives, the FBI said.

The e-mail, which was sent to most recipients around Christmas, tells the reader that there is a contract out on his life, generally for $50,000.

It says that if the recipient sends the "hit man" more money than that -- generally ranging from $80,000 to $150,000 -- the hit man will leave him alone.

No one has reportedly lost money or been harmed in the scam, but some recipients were unnerved by the messages, said Special Agent Bill Shore, who supervises the computer crime squad in the Pittsburgh FBI office.

"You think, 'What did I get into? What do I gotta do to get out of this?' " Shore said.

The FBI became aware of the scam when people in Atlanta, Georgia, and New Orleans, Louisiana, received similar e-mails in early December, Shore said.

The scheme seems to have originated in Russia.

Dude, get a frickin' soul.

I'm hazarding a guess that the majority of Blogger/BlogSpot authors are from the United States of America. Why, then, do they schedule LONG PERIODS OF OUTAGE during our normal waking hours?! WHY?! I understand that if I had already upgraded to the beta version I would not have experienced a problem, but: BLOGGER, I CURSE THEE. It's free, so I should be grateful. But, Thanksgiving was last year. So, again I say: .... Oh, you know what I said.

Today was the MacWorld Keynote address. If you want to know what good stuff was announced then click here. If you want me to eat your brain then click here.

National Geographic informs me that my image may now identify me on the internets:

A new type of search engine using facial recognition technology could soon be able to pinpoint images of a person among the billions of photos posted online—even if their name does not appear.

A Swedish company named Polar Rose plans to launch its service for facial searches tied to the photo-sharing site Flickr within a couple weeks.

In the next few months the firm hopes to expand the service to search images across the entire Web.

The technology promises enhanced photo finding that would make it easier to find people on the Internet.

But privacy advocates are concerned that Polar Rose and similar facial-mapping search engines will violate people's rights and potentially aid criminals.

Lee Tien is an attorney at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, an Internet watchdog group that focuses on privacy and civil liberties.

"Photos [posted online] are effectively anonymous now," Tien said, unless they are labeled with some sort if identifying text. "But if Polar Rose works the way they say it will, that's all going to change."

Tien said that this kind of technology could aid stalkers in tracking down their victims, or it could allow employers, insurance companies, and the government to pry into people's lives more than some of us would like. (continued)

I'm so excited that there is yet another way to invade my privacy. I know some folks who read my blog (I'm thinking of you fondly) are going to challenge that everything about me is already known through other electronic means, and why am I being so private in the first place, blah blah blah. Too much is too much sometimes, though. This. This is too much.

Did you see up at the top, where I changed my tag line to π ρ? Do you get it? It's funny! It's a Campus Ladies joke. :)

First it was Baltimore, and now New York has a sketchily foul odor. Are we being tested for our patriotic response to smell now?

I mention this story because it interrupted the morning training session, and I'd like to point out that you're supposed to be learning, not surfing the web. But, whatever. I get paid for showing up to work no matter.

Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta.

Ugly Betty

The gorgeous America Ferrera graces the cover of the newest CosmoGIRL!

“Hot mami!”

A little Betty trivia from IMDb:
Based on the popular Colombian telenovela "Yo soy Betty, la fea" (1999) (I'm Betty, the Ugly), which has been dubbed and broad casted in countries such as Brasil, China or the Philippines and has been adapted in some other countries. Local versions like "Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin" (2003) (There's No One Like Jassi) in India or "Verliebt in Berlin" (2005) (Smitten in Berlin) also have been immensely successful.

Did anyone watch the supersized Top Chef this week?

I can't say Marcel is my favorite person in the world, but Betty, Sam, and Ilan were being so mean to him that I yelled at the screen that I hoped they all went home before him! And, if you haven't seen the episode I won't ruin it by telling you how judges' table played out. I think the judges chose the right reasons to send this week's person packing.

Nice job, Michael! Vicodin inspires you to cook great food! Perhaps you need to be medicated to be a great chef. Not good... The look on Debi Mazar's face when she saw Michael's effed up mouth was priceless. :) She asked for him to come out! Her own fault!

I wish that flickr allowed me to favorite entire sets, as in "I favorite this dog set" rather than clicking "add to faves" on the 30 photos included in the dog set. Example? Heather's set of Darren. Yes, that's Darren of Darren McLikes Himself / Look at Me. I'm So Important That I Have a Blog. Heather and Darren are dating. Isn't that fantastic?! Anyway, he's such an interesting looking guy. Lily Allen's dog returned mostly safe and sound

I didn't post about this before, because in my heart it felt wrong. Now that there is a happy ending for Maggie May there is something to be told. A new post on Lily's myspace blog (all content SIC):

Maggie May's return

Maggie May is back as you know , and I said I'd let you know some more details . I didnt want to go into to much detail but the rumours and allegations have started so here goes .

Last night we recieved a call from a man in the Leytonstone area . He said he had Maggie and had bought her as a present for his sister , he didnt really want to give her back but was persuaded by the reward . Some friends went to meet him a couple of hours later to see if it was Maggie . Luckily it was , so they left to get the money in order to get her back . They came back and were asked to follow the man and his two friends in a car for a few minutes away from the main road , they did this , handed over the money and got Maggie back . Once Maggie had been handed over the young men and woman offered to sell more puppies to my friends , which made us realise that these people were obviously in the business of moving dogs .

Now I feel guilty for having given these people money and contributing to their cruel business but I love that dog and felt I had no choice .

People have been speculating that because maggie was thin and had fleas she must have run away , MAGGGIE was tied up and in her cage in the back of a van and could not have escaped , she was stolen . The fact that she was very thin , makes me think she was mistreated ( ie not fed ) and the fact she was infested with fleas implies she was kept with other ( maybe stolen ) animals .

Im not going into anymore detail as this is now a matter for the RSPCA and the police . Thank you again to everyone who has helped me retrieve maggie . This has been an awful experience and people who are accusing me of neglecting my dog in some way , are distressing and hurtful , I hope this clears up the issue .

Lily

My comment to her:

Please don't feel guilty that you gave them money. Maggie May's safe return is the most important, and your exposure of the story behind her disappearance will lead to more good in the end. If you hadn't paid them, who knows what they would have done with her?! Give her lots of puppy kisses for us all.

Bad people exist in the world, and their option to be bad needs to be taken away from them. I hope these people are caught and placed in a facility that teaches them that cruelty to animals is a very slippery slope. If they never respect animals they will never respect humankind.

Just Drew

I just love her. I can't help it.

Sally Field, an encore

I don't usually ask you to tell me why you like me so much, but I'm making an exception. Here are some questions I would like you to answer. Avi is the only person required to do this homework. For the rest of you it's extra credit.

1. Give me a nickname and explain why you picked it.

2. Am I loveable?

3. How long have you known me?

4. When and how did you first find my blog?

5. What was your first impression?

6. Do you still think that way about me now?

7. If I was an ice cream flavor, which would I be and why?

8. What makes me happy?

9. What makes me sad?

10. What song (if any) reminds you of me?

11. If you could give me anything what would it be?

12. Do you consider me a friend?

13. How often do you visit my blog?

14. Ever wanted to tell me something but couldn’t?

15. Would you make a move on me?
[You don't have to answer this, I'm leaving it in for the people who want to steal it. I'm not looking for dates, AVI. :P ]

16. Describe me in one word.

17. Do you feel that you could talk to me about anything and I would listen?

18. What do you like most about me/my blog?

19. What do you dislike most about me/my blog?

po-tay-to to-mah-to

Being at work kills my creativity.

Although, I did get to do an initial run-through of my video for Avi's old man birthday at the end of this month! That was fun. If he doesn't like it I'm disowning him, so I think he'll like it.

Unless you really, really, really, really, really like sun-dried tomatoes I recommend you stay away from the sun-dried tomato flavored Pringles Select chip. Not so good. However, I'm guessing by proxy that the other flavors are delicious. So, try one of those! Here's a picture of the cinnamon flavor, since this product is so new that there don't seem to be images of the product anywhere:

For those of you who like sweet potatoes I'm sure those look tasty. Me, I do not eat sweet potatoes. Not even in fry form. Sorry to disappoint, but more for you!

I was experiencing Perez withdrawal yesterday, but after his two-day NYE hangover he is back in full force today. I didn't even know one could experience a two-day hangover. I've never had a hangover for longer than a morning.

Lucie Blackman Trust . org

I am semi-addicted to the Scissor Sisters song I Don't Feel Like Dancin' at the moment, so I visited YouTube for videos. While there I found this PSA from them:

I had no idea who Lucie Blackman was so I went to lucieblackmantrust.org to find out more info, but ... it's not very well organized in terms of finding out what the trust is for, so I used wikipedia instead which explains that:

Lucie Blackman (d. 2000) was an English woman working illegally as a hostess in Roppongi, Tokyo, who disappeared mysteriously in July 2000. Her dismembered body was found a year later, buried in a shallow grave at a beach in Miura, Kanagawa in June 2001. She was 21 years old at the time of her death.

Property developer Joji Obara was charged for drugging, raping and killing Blackman, as well as the rapes of six other women and the murder of another hostess.

Okay, so... she was a hostess. BFD. Lots of people are hostesses. ... Ohhhhhhh, that kind of hostess:

A hostess bar is a bar or pub that employs primarily female staff and caters to adult males seeking drink and conversation. A similar and more recent establishment (specific to Japan) is a host bar.

Hostess bars can be found in many countries and take many forms. While some bars are tied to the sex trade, with hostesses being little more than prostitutes who serve drinks, at most establishments the sex is generally implied, not performed.

I feel educated now. Note to self: Don't be a hostess.

At the very bottom of the wikipedia entry there is a reference link titled Obara did not kill Blackman, lawyers say in closing statement. The case won't be decided upon until April, 2007.

The FAA has a headache.

I like the fact that CNN now does story highlights so that I don't actually have to take the time to read entire articles if I just want the facts, Ma'am. (DCMM, that wasn't directed at you. :) Like this article, for instance:

Do you believe in UFOs, alien lifeforms, etc.? Does my answer affect your readership? Did you see/read the ending to Contact? Then you know my answer. And, in case you'd not thought of it before: On any planet other than Earth we're considered the aliens.

The gift of scent

My nephew is newly single and has moved out of his ex's home back in with my brother and SIL. I helped my niece to hand out presents this year, so when I handed my nephew a small bag my dad got all excited and said, “that gift only makes sense if you know that we know about your new situation!” I had no idea what to expect after that, I thought it was going to be something for hunting, but ... well, it kinda was:

Ladies, if you're interested, my nephew is a quite handsome 20-something, tall, thin but muscular, played football in high school, and knows how to keep your engine purring. (He's a mechanic. I'm a dork.) Oh, and he smells good now? I've not smelled my own nephew, so I can't 100% vouch for that, but if you like Tag Midnight then I'm assuming he smells good.

Put on your red shoes and dance the blues

Did you want to see Avi dance?

Don't say I never gave you anything. There's a vote between him and Mr. Fab over at CP's blog. Go vote!

What did Ms. Britney Spears think of the dance-off?

That's what I remember, anyway. I'll keep better track in 2007.

As for movies...I paid waaaay too much attention to those. I categorized my movie watching by TV, DVD, and theater viewings. I never missed adding a movie to the list. They're all accounted for in 2006, because in 2005 I didn't keep good enough track and I vowed to keep better track. The numbers for 2006:

    Seen in the theater:    8
              Seen on DVD: 143
                  Seen on TV: 100
    __________________
               Grand total: 251

See the entire list of viewed movies in 2006 here. View the list of movies I saw from Netflix and in the theater in 2005 here (6 in the theater, 126 from Netflix).

Hay, Allie, Ripley, Georgie-girl, and I hope that you had a semi- to über-fantastic 2006 and that 2007 finds you and yours happy, healthy, wise, and able to keep on blogging. :)

And, in tribute to two most excellent bloggers, Helen and Maven, I wish you: Peace!

A fantastic postsecret idea

Based on this postsecret:

...a reader emailed Frank with the following idea:

    -----Email Message-----
    Sent: Sunday, December 31, 2006 1:09 AM

This postcard just gave me an idea:

I am going to buy a pinata and invite my friends to put their secrets in anonymously. Then we can blindfold each other, beat the shit out of it, watch our secrets rain down, and read them like candy. (I will email you some pictures).

The only friend I trust to do this with, besides Hay, is B. So, when we finally meet in person I think it's time to beat up a piñata. I do understand that if it's not my secret then its hers, and vice versa, but I feel closer to B than I have any girlfriend I've ever had in my life.

A year of random

Your meme, should you choose to accept it, is to dig into your blog archives and post the first sentence of the first post of each of the twelve months of 2006. Joanne and P'nut did this meme, but I need to switch it up a tad and preface by saying that I don't always have a sentence in the first post of the month so instead I am telling you the post title and the first sentence if one exists. Here goes:

January: Georgie snoozes in the new year with Bear on the kitty chair

February: This begs the question: ~ Where do bad boys go?

March: Birdies and Poppies love Regina King ~ We do!

April: Happy fish day! ~ In our 8th grade French class Madame told us all about poisson d'avril*, the tradition of affixing fish (pictures) to people's backs as an April Fool's day prank.

May: Ewwwwwwww! / What A Difference A Day Makes ~ That's what an Oxy pad took off my face last night after it was outside in the dirt all day.

June: Life, the universe, everything, and ...um... work. ~ At Avi's suggestion I am now in an air conditioned environment, no longer melting.

July: Murphy's (gd c-word* of a whoo-ore) law. ~ Your boiler will wait until Saturday afternoon of a holiday weekend to let you know about a soot build-up problem that has been around for quite some time now but is finally getting around to emitting black plumes of smoke out the outtake valve.

August: Bonne chance et merci pour tous les poissons! ~ Taking my first of two practice tests for exam 1 (of 2) today. Wish me luck! Or, wish me to fail, that works too.

September: Pink fan* ~ I've actually been feverishly refreshing my blog and reading my Yahoo mail for comments on the post below this one.

October: R and R ~ I've been a little stressed lately, so I was pretty psyched to have a weekend of fun.

November: Halloween countdown ~ Number of minutes Poppy left work early to greet trick-or-treaters: 120

December: Do me a favor... ~ Bring your hands up to your face, palms toward your nose, and sniff them.

Oh, I love my mind. It entertains me to no end.

In case you want to read the full original post just click on the name of any month.

Don't laugh at me...too hard.

I was just at my brother's house for Christmas gathering and I hurt myself. Playing Wii bowling. For reals, yo. So sad. But, a little hilarious. :)

I also got the following books:

For some reason I didn't have to explain why I wanted a post-apocalyptic book about zombies, but did have to explain the back cover of Amy's book:

My explanation: “She's just weird. I love her.”

ACW, in case you were wondering, I did ask for WWZ for Christmas because of you.

MTV tr3s

Does anyone else consider this promotional commercial one ginormous stereotype, or just me?

Stormy weather

We were going to travel to Hay's parents' house for a holiday get-together today but there is a snowstorm outside. I ventured out to put some outgoing mail in the mailbox and I almost needed a rescue crew.

Critters

Today I was sifting through 3 months' worth of holiday catalogs and stumbled upon one for The Swiss Colony. Inside this catalog were several selections containing chocolate raccoons.

Yes. You heard me. Raccoons. Made of chocolate.

Here's the Santa's Helpers variety:

And the Forest Friends Log variety:

I would really love to receive chocolate raccoons in the mail. But, not real raccoons dipped in chocolate. That's just wrong.

It's kinda sorta good for you.

Today I converted my entire maternal family to turkey pepperoni:

164_TurkeyPepperoni-1

My cousin insists she did not notice the difference. The differences I noticed: the pepperoni is smoother, more translucent, and spicier.

B sent me Christmas presents:

She warned me about the <3F<3U<3C<3K gift, but I forgot all about it, so I got a big chuckle when I opened it up. :) It's displayed prominently on my home desk, at least until Ripley scoots across the desk for some air time and knocks it down, but I'll pick it back up.

Thank you, B!!!!!! xoxoxoxo

I stole this from Bella:

Testriffic IQ test

Lunchtime poll, holiday edition

Do you give gifts during the winter holidays to people who serve you?* If so, to which ones? And, what kind of gift do you give?

I admit, Hay and I don't give anything extra to the people who serve us, but we're generous with the people close to us.

Paws, please

We were just watching the countdown show of The Soup's best clips of 2006. During the #19 clip, when Kirstie Allie came out in a bikini on Oprah's show, Ripley reached up with both front paws and turned off the TV set then, with her paws still on the power button, turned around to give me and Hay a pleading look. I think she's trying to tell us something... That's the hardest I've laughed in weeks.

Al-lo

Everybody keeps talking about Weird Al's interview with Kevin Federline (who?), but I thought the interview between Al and Jessica Simpson was the funniest part of the show:

Peace lily on Earth

Ripley wishes you and yours a peaceful holiday season.

Seafood and the letter C again

I'm going to a holiday luncheon today. At a seafood place. I don't eat seafood. Totally wasted on me. It happens to be my grandmother's most favoritest restaurant, although she is not accompanying me. I wish I had thought to invite her earlier, having her meet my co-workers would have been a trip. :)

Two C things I forgot to say I love are Colbert and Chopra. Stephen is one of the funniest people on my TV set. His interview with Deepak Chopra was hilarious. I thought it was very interesting that Mr. Chopra chose to wear bright red Nikes to his interview. What does that mean, exactly? His theories on reality perception send my mind spiraling out of control.

Mashed po-ta-toes! :) Like the little piggies!

10 things I love beginning with the letter C

Heather at Nabbalicious graced me with the letter C from her 10 things I love meme. Here I go.

1. Cats. My kitties are my kids. I can't even imagine what a sad life I would be leading without my girls.

2. Cheese. A world without cheese? Inconceivable! I particularly enjoy the extra sharp and higher varieties of cheddar.

3. Caffeine. Oh, nemesis. I am on a caffeine break right now, but I've seriously been addicted to it since age 6 when I began drinking Taster's Choice and Coke as my main beverages. I don't drink Taster's Choice anymore, by the way.

4. Cuddling. I really like hugging Hay on the couch while we watch TV. It's like a treat to me.

5. Chips. American or English, it's all good. If they weren't bad for me I'd eat them for every meal.

6. Canada. Seriously, what's not to love? Some of the fondest memories of my life were made au Canada, mostly in places where they spoke French, but not always.

7. Chocolate. Just don't mix fruit with my chocolate. That's wrong. Oh, and anything above 70% is just too hard core for me. I particularly love the Lindt hazelnut wafer bar that I've mentioned in the past.

8. Corn. Particularly the popped and cob varieties. With butter. And some salt. And more butter.

9. Catawampus. It's an adjective, sometimes spelled cattywampus or cattywhompus. I like my life askew, crooked, and just not right.

10. Cows. Yes, I like to eat them and their delicious dairy products, but I thoroughly enjoy their company when alive. I particularly enjoy having calves suckle on my hand, which is an experience I can't describe without sounding like a total perv. Just try it. I even enjoy the aroma of their manure, incessant mooing, and spontaneous charging when I get too close.

If you would like me to give you a letter please let me know. If you would like Heather to give you a letter please let her know.

Did you? I know I did. A lot.

Reality check: 95 percent of Americans had premarital sex

NEW YORK (AP) -- More than nine out of 10 Americans, men and women alike, have had premarital sex, according to a new study. The high rates extend even to women born in the 1940s, challenging perceptions that people were more chaste in the past.

"This is reality-check research," said the study's author, Lawrence Finer. "Premarital sex is normal behavior for the vast majority of Americans, and has been for decades."

Finer is a research director at the Guttmacher Institute, a private New York-based think tank that studies sexual and reproductive issues and which disagrees with government-funded programs that rely primarily on abstinence-only teachings. The study, released Tuesday, appears in the new issue of Public Health Reports.

The study, examining how sexual behavior before marriage has changed over time, was based on interviews conducted with more than 38,000 people -- about 33,000 of them women -- in 1982, 1988, 1995 and 2002 for the federal National Survey of Family Growth. According to Finer's analysis, 99 percent of the respondents had had sex by age 44, and 95 percent had done so before marriage. (CNN)

It's too. damn. hot.

Global warming has entered my body. I feel like I may very well just spontaneously combust at any moment. If I stop blogging you'll know why. :)

Monday, December 18, 2006

REALLY?! Wait. What?!

Circumcision reduces the risk of contracting HIV?! Explain the science. Please. I don't comprehend. Or, is this just another way to make even more Africans have unprotected sex? I mean, c'mon, two clinical trials and we're all done? All ready to tell the guys to cut their penises up? I'm 100% skeptical about this.

I do understand that circumcision can result in much improved hygiene, but hygiene and the HIV virus are not one in the same.

JT + SNL (- Nancy Grace) = FUNNY

I was going to do a post about SNL on Sunday, but it was hosted by Justin Timberlake, and I know Bearette can't stand him. However, so many sites are talking about his performance that I want to add my 2 cents: Saturday's SNL was the funniest I've seen in quite a long time. I thought JT was funny in all of his skits, even if the audience didn't quite catch on in the Target skit, and I thought his live performances were spectacular. Here's his performance of What Goes Around (my favorite motto as a child):

Not sure why that awful Nancy Grace faked rape skit was at the end of the show, but otherwise the writers did a great job.

SPEAKING of Mr. Justin Timberlake, did you know there's a contest for us normal folks which could result in one lucky person singing with him at the Grammys in February?! YAH! I'm THERE!
