Arcade |
Donkey Kong – I enjoy getting hit by barrels and having to reclimb tons of stairs when I get knocked off. Also, who doesn’t like watching a princess be rescued? |
Pole Position – I like to drive. Fast. Super fast. Around corners. Wheeeee! |
Space Ace – I more prefer to watch others play this game. When I was a kid it was a common weekend occurrence for an entire arcade full of kids and 20-somethings to watch the best player in town finish the entire game in record time. Also, who doesn’t like watching a princess be rescued? |
Galaga – Shooting things in space, watching ships spin in circles, getting an extra ship after being absorbed by the waspy thing. Yup. I’m easy to please. |
Game console |
Space Invaders – It makes me squeal to watch things advancing at me while I’m trying to shoot them. |
Chocobo’s Mysterious Dungeon – I enjoy kicking things with my claw while I screech in bird noises. :) |
Super Mario Brothers – Giant mushrooms and coins falling out of the sky. A more perfect world does not exist. (Let us ignore the fact that I hate the taste and smell of mushrooms. I still think they’re beautiful.) |
Computer |
Below the Root – There’s something comforting to me about being underground. Aside from the chlostrophobia it induces. I also enjoy picking up objects and putting them back down, which is something you can do a lot of in this game. (I’m a klepto who returns things.) |
Duke Nukem – My favorite is shooting the turkey to make it fatter then grabbing it. Oh, and shooting the soda cans then jumping up to catch them. Okay, okay, my real favorite thing is shooting through the transformer gizmo thingamajigs. (I also enjoy Commander Keen, but it's exactly like DN. My favorite thing to do is jump the clamshells and kill the wolf.) |
Impossible Mission – Stay a while. Stay FOREVER! MUAHAHAHA! *bzzt!* |
Gecko, are you amused by the fact that I used Wikipedia links exclusively? :) I knew you would be.
Okay, now, really, what are everyone's own favorites?

Commodore 64 - Lode Runner was my first video game addiction. My brothers and I used to fist fight over the console. Also completely addicted to Tetris and Super Mario at one point. Now I'm old and the only computer games I play are on Pogo, which I'm pretty sure doesn't count at all.
Donkey Kong & Super Mario Brothers = good. Also loved Frogger and Pitfall. I still play Tetris on my cell phone.
Molly - Shut UP! *shove* I LOVE Pogo!!! What's your name there? Mine is: timbgtinkle. What games do you play? I love EZ Win Bingo and the slots. I also love PoppIt!. *pop*
Bearette - I really enjoy watching other people play Frogger since I'm awful myself. Pitfall always makes me think of Indiana Jones, but somehow in a bad way...
Never played arcade games. Some classic console favorites were Contra, Bionic Commando, Legend of Zelda, SMB 2 and 3.
Then, a little older, Duke Nukem 3D, which was quite fun.
Now, Half-Life 2, the new Zelda for the Wii.
Avi - You've never played arcade games? That does not compute. If we're ever in the same state I'm kidnapping you for an arcade run.
GALAGA IS THE BEST!
Sorry about the CAPS but I love it so.
Old Skewl is always the best.
My favorites are Super Mario Bros and Centipede.
Nice touch using Wikipedia.
I don't ever remember playing arcade games. By the time I was allowed to play games, it was all consoles. NES, etc.
I have a friend here who keeps trying to get me to go to the arcade with her and play. I just can't bring myself to do it.
I don't know this friend you speak of, but if I recommend going someplace with my "real life" friends they go. I'm very influential, like E. F. Hutton. So, I repeat: If we're ever in the same state I'm kidnapping you for an arcade run. Yes, I do force fun upon others.
Poppy - my pogo name is Troo72. I'm completely addicted to and simultaneously hate Tripeaks. I also kinda like Penguin Blocks. It's an odd little game, but I like it.
I'll be a willing hostage, I guess.
I preferred Commander Keen to Duke Nukem, because the jokes were better. But, we played lots of Hero's Quest/Quest for Glory, and pretty much anything made by Sierra or Microprose.
Can't go wrong with DK and Super Mario Brothers. As much fun as my husband's new Wii is, it just doesn't compare. :)
OH.MY.GOD. I can't believe you've got Impossible Mission in that list. I can't even tell you how much of my teenage life was spent playing that game and totally loving it. I miss it so much. In fact, just two months ago while talking to a friend (who did NOT get it) I was mooning about how much I wish I could play it again.
