Inconceivable!

Buttercup

Which Princess Bride Character are You?
this quiz was made by mysti

Brought to you via me by the talented and wonderfully racked Penny Shagwell. :)

Idolizing the leftovers

I thought all day that Elvis night would suck. I was wrong.

Taylor had a bit of a technical malfunction with his playback earpiece (I think) and just threw it to the side and kept on rocking. That's a pro. Taylor's rendition of In the Ghetto was quiet and modest and small and wonderful and brilliant. That really is a record I would buy. From his falsetto to his low notes, just incredible.

Ryan's comment to Simon about his driver and his Mercedes was totally out of line.

But, effing A do I love Chris. I wanna dry hump his voice. *swoon*

Elliott really was great tonight.

Kat's going home.

Stace, I promise I'm not trying to take your job, but this week's Idol is finally something to talk about. ;)

Political campaign

President George W Bush's approval rating is now a soggy 31%. As someone points out at Moxie's site, that's below freezing. I know that some presidents have had lower ratings, but I do think it's time to step up the impeachment campaign.

The King to be butchered

Wow, that sounds harsh. All I'm trying to say is that the Top 4 Idols are singing Elvis Presley songs this week. I suppose that's a spoiler in itself, but AOL Television has leaked all the song choices. Click at your own risk..
Happy Monday morning, everyone!!!!!!

Oh, I just want to give you all a big bear hug!!!!

(Yah, I have no idea what has possessed me to be so happy on a Monday. Just... let's entertain me.)

Yummy

Do you love Rice Krispies treats? How about chocolate? Are you looking for a tasty treat that rates as a D- on the nutrition scale but an A+ in your mouth? Try the new Split Stix!

Lots of fat*, lots of carbs, no protein, one measly gram of fiber, just plain bad for you! Yippy!

---
*For some reason the calculation of fat on the calorie counter site shows up as Total Fat = 0g, but directly below it you'll see that Saturated Fat = 3g, which is how much fat there really is in there. There are actually 4.5 grams of fat per serving, which I thought sounded right but the Internetses confused me. I just checked a real, actual box in my house and it said 4.5 grams. Really.

Porch party clarification.

Just so no one builds up with anticipation then wonders why I'm not posting about said porch party, it's not until May 20. So, you have lots of time to figure out where I live, or just tag along with ACW, Kim, Jules, Bdogg, or Stacy who already know (approximately) where I live.

I'm tired.

Seriously. I went to bed before 10:00pm last night, woke up this morning at 7:45am, mowed the lawn at 10:00am, worked on a project to be divulged later with Hay until 4:00pm, snoozed out on the couch until about 5:00pm, woke up and did some more of undivulged project until about 7:15pm, and now I'm sitting here wondering why the 7734* this cold won't just show itself, take me down, and get it over with. You know what I am say-ing?

Anyway, I'm sorry to be boring, but I'm too tired to think of something great to say or to offload my photos so that I can upload them, so here's one I planned to use for Sunday garden. It's not second best, I assure you.

Yah? Yah!

Dwight Schrute Bobblehead

You know you want one two. Pre-order now.

A-s-s spells ass;* p-o-r-c-h spells PARTY!

I was not certain I would make it out of bed this morning. I did, but I'm not entirely confident it was the correct decision. I may have a cold, I may just be dehydrated, or I may have allergies to something blooming, but I feel pretty. darn. crummy this sunshiny morning.

Did I mention that Hay and I are having a porch party? And that my parents in Tennessee (previously Florida) have decided to come up with their RV and all the furry kids to help celebrate?! Je suis psyched. You're all invited, if you can figure out where I live. (MIL, it's time for you to step up your reconnaissance mission!!!!) In preparation for the party I would like you to memorize some rules: This is a family-friendly event, so please don't get drunk, please don't swear like a pirate-sailor, and please don't set things on fire. Especially the cats. Thanks. We're serving “lite” refreshments (whatever those are) and non-alcoholic bevvies. I think the party deserves a cake, too. I'm pretty giggly-excited to see what you say in the comments section about all this. :)

Eating disorders and such

If you're interested at all in Nicole Richie's Vanity Fair article where she comes clean about her weight loss (or, at least two-thirds clean) go visit Perez. I commend her for admiting she is not a role model at this point. She is too thin. I kept seeing photos of her and worrying that she would die in her sleep. I was troubled by this so much that I stopped looking at photos of her. I really hope she is successful at gaining some weight back. She deserves to be healthy and live a clean lifestyle just like any other recovering [insert-your-favorite-vice-here]addict. I'm not going to link the image so that I don't have the image police knocking at my door, but she looks a bit better now, a little tiny bit of meat on her belly. I'm pleasantly happy and not surprised to find out that Nicole did nothing to Paris to warrant this made-up “feud”. Friendships sometimes just end, especially if one person is trying to recover from a party lifestyle while the other person continues that behavior. *stepping down from soapbox*

I had an eating disorder in my teens and early twenties, so even if I don't like anything else about a person I just have to relate to that part of them. That's that.

Gimmes

I received my 1GB memory stick for my camera yesterday. Now I'm armed and ready with the potential for 400 snaps in one sitting. If I take my 512MB stick with me that's another 225 photos. I'm P-SYCH-ED.

Also, picked up some Playmobil family members the other day:

DSC03858.jpg DSC03865.jpg

I haven't named them yet, although perhaps the unicorn's name should be Winnie and the parisol lady should be Ophelia and the little princess brushing her unicorn should be Madeleine or Françoise. ?

More photos of the new additions are available here. Photos of the rest of the family are here.

Split personality

The left side of my hair is wavy-curly today, while the right side is straight as straight can be. What is up with that? Pictures later.

Hmm, it definitely looked more pronounced in the bathroom mirror.

Paris B goes home

America, I understand you just couldn't get into her stuff. Paris will go on to be an incredible performer without AI. I hope she does a jazz album with a bunch of songs in tribute to Billie Holiday.

Roll with it, baby

I am still sad about the thing in the embarrassée post, BUT overshadowing this situation is the fact that I am excited about planning out the landscape for a particular blogger who shall remain nameless unless she prefers to be named (*cough*Stef*cough*). I already have printed out all the photos of her house and land, researched plants, trees, and shrubs for her zone, and have drawn in a plan on the printouts. It will cost her a small fortune if she goes with my plan, but I'm having SO MUCH FUN doing this that I can't help but go overboard. After my initial “money is no object” estimate I plan to create a more scaled down landscaping plan and present both to her. I might also do a middle-of-the-road version, depending on if that makes sense. I am totally changing the look of her property with my design, it's nuts. I hope she likes what I come up with, but it's more about having the freedom to go nuts with someone else's land than it is about them actually shelling out the money and taking the time to realize my plan. Maybe I should become a landscape designer! Yah... that sounds lucrative, right?

CNN Breaking News: Tsunami warning cancelled

P'nut, avert your eyes.

Subject: CNN Breaking News

-- Tsunami warnings issued for Fiji and New Zealand after earthquake measuring a magnitude of about 8.0 shakes southern Pacific Ocean.

Developing story available at CNN.

Update: CNN has issued a statement that “[a]ll tsunami warnings issued after a major quake in the southern Pacific Ocean have been canceled, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.” Thanks to Sara and Vanessa for the heads up. I'm very happy this was a false alarm, although the earthquake itself was not...

embarrassée

I'm feeling embarrassed today. I don't want to go into all the details. Just. I chose one set of friends over the other, but the other set of friends chose the friends I chose over. And, now I feel disappointed, second best (which is exactly what I did to the first set of friends, so what goes around comes around), and... sad. I'm hoping that saying it here will make it realized so that I can learn from it and move on instead of still feeling these feelings. I don't particularly care for them.

Chica chic-AH

Chris singing Renegade - HOT. I think I may have just molested my television. I hear a siren in the driveway. Crap.

Yes, this is an American Idol post.

Hatin'

Do you ever get so annoyed at celebrity news that you want to blog “why is this even news?!?!” but you don't want to draw any more attention to it than it already has?

Well, that's how I feel about the following stories:
    David Blaine's water antics
Keith Richards falling out of a palm tree (or was it off a jet ski?)
    Kate Beckinsale jogging and smoking
    Jennifer Aniston throwing a frisbee
Keira Nightley's Oxfam dress raising $7000
50 Cent lashing out at Oprah
    Sienna Miller and ANYthing
    Victoria Beckham and ANYthing
    Courtney Love and ANYthing
I really think I could get on just fine without knowing about these things...

American Idol *****spoiler alert******

I'm going to talk about tonight's American Idol, which hasn't happened yet. If you look below you're going to find out information about the performances tonight. If you don't want to know what will happen I suggest you stop reading.

Spoiler 1.
I'm intrigued by Katharine McPhee's song choice KT Tunstall for tonight. She has chosen to sing Black Horse and Cherry Tree (KT Tunstall). I've not heard of Ms. Tunstall before, but she has 36,000+ friends on MySpace, so someone has obviously caught on to her music. The Black Horse... song is available on her MySpace page, but I think perhaps it has too many woohoos in it, and she should have chosen Suddenly I See, the song that starts playing on her MySpace page (for now, at least) when you arrive.

Update: What'd I say about the woohoos? And, being on the floor? Schtoopid. KT's version is definitely better. Katharine did not pull off the flirty sex appeal, à mon avis. Nope. It was more about the guys playing percussion.

Spoiler 2.
Play that funky music white boy
Play that funky music right
Play that funky music white boy
Lay down that boogie and play that funky music till you die…
(hey,hey) till you die…yeah, yeah

Guess who is singing this. Taylor. I think this is an extremely awkward song choice for him. It might send him home. Then again, MJ won't absolutely vouch for the validity of this spoiler. Let's hope it's a rumor. Although, I'd love to see him sing it just to watch him hop around like he does. :)

Update: Hay and I laughed hysterically when Taylor fell to the floor for the “till you die” lyric. Hay's voting Taylor all the way through to the end. *sigh* :)

Lunchtime poll

Do you like it best when I...?:
    A) just post photos, don't talk about them
    B) post photos and describe the background story
    C) talk about my life without photos, à la “I'm on dial-up you evil person! Photos make me grumpy.”
    D) talk about celebrity gossip and nothing about myself
    E) don't post for an entire day because then you don't feel bad about not visiting my site anymore
    F) other (please explain)

Please drop me a comment with your favorite.

I'm not necessarily going to do anything with the information, except perhaps understand why hardly anyone is visiting my site anymore. I think when I stopped posting American Idol updates my readership took a nosedive. I mean, it's my blog so I should ultimately not care if it's being read. But, I do. A little. *sniffle* No, I'm okay.

Monday, May 01, 2006

And now my mind is blown.

When you're leaving comments on a Blogger blog with word verification turned on but you don't understand what the word verification letters are supposed to be you can click on the little accessibility/wheelchair icon to the right of the word verification box and a pattern of numbers will be spoken. If you type the numbers exactly as spoken they are equivalent to typing in the letters you see. COOL, EH?!?!?!?! EHH!! Lil, now we don't need to try to guess 12 times before we get it right! W00t!

“...but you can call me Katharine.”

My head wobbles like Katharine Hepburn's did when she was in her golden years. Aside from a slight scare that there might be something wrong with me neurologically, I'm quite flattered that my body would assume the involuntary actions of such an incredible woman.

Isn't she just stunning in that photo?

Ewwwwwwww! / What A Difference A Day Makes

That's what an Oxy pad took off my face last night after it was outside in the dirt all day. None of that is makeup. It's all dirt. I am pretty repulsed by it, but it's not going to stop me from going right back out again tonight. :)

The best Dog evah

Synopsis: Dog and the team head to San Francisco to catch the elusive Samu.

Should I give away the ending? Okay. Bonnie turns 6 and has a birthday party at the beach. Such a cutie patootey!

Ohhhhh, the ending to the Samu part! After 3 long years, and on the 120th day of a judge's 120-day extension, the following dialogue unfolds...

Young Blood (Tim): “If we stole seventy-five thousand dollars from your Mom wouldn't you come after us 3 years later?”
Dog: “WE CAUGHT YOU, MOTHER*bleeeeeeep*ER!!!!!!!!”
Beth: (snotty with tears) “Call the judge. Five hours to spare. CALL THE JUDGE *sniffle* and tell *gulp sniffle* him we caught Samu.”
Duane Lee: (to Samu who is locked up in the back seat of the police cruiser) “Thanks for the chase, bra.”
The swat team surrounding all suspects: (bigass scary guns pointed at the heads of people on the ground) *crickets*

This is why I love Dog.

Tales of Elyria

“In 303AD, the Roman Emperor, Diocletian began his anti-Christian campaign. Christians were ordered to participate in the imperial cults. Anyone who refused was killed. Many eastern Christians fled to the Western Empire where Christianity was still tolerated.

Elyria, a young, Celtic healer from the alpine region near the municipum of Juvavum in the Roman province of Noricum, becomes involved in hiding a group of Alexandrian Christians. When one of the group is found murdered at the entrance to the saltmines, Elyria becomes involved in the search for the killer, the discovery of who exactly she was helping to hide and thwarting the will of a living god. In order to do what she believes is right, she must trust strangers that could ultimately end her life.”

The adventure continues at Storytime.

(Vanessa, thank you for stopping by. I'm now addicted to your novel. :)

Just sayin'. Also referred to as a flick, I guess, but I've always called it a beaker. Am I the only one? Meep.

Meep

Oops, that last post was supposed to be published 5 hours ago but I forgotted to press “Publish”. *snort*

If I say “I beakered him” or “I beakered it” do you know what I mean? Hay did not, so apparently I've been hiding that from him for 9 years. Hmm. Something new between us! Cool.

PS - The verb beaker has nothing to do with Beaker. Or “meep”.

Busy bee

Best In Show is such an incredible movie. But, I digress.

Happy weekend, Internets! This weekend started at mid-day today when I did a bit of light shopping and a bit of double garlic pizza consuming. Then, I came home. And the real work began. Mowing the lawn, planting huuuuuge flowerbeds with tons and tons of seed packets, feeding the wildlife, setting free our Blue Spruces from their protective plastic, then cleaning up to go inside to make dinner. Truly a whirlwind day today. Tomorrow is even moreso, which means it's bedtime for this mama.

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend and that you see at least one shooting star, rainbow, Leprechaun, or scary movie by Sunday at 11:59pm. (Yah, I know, that's random.)

Shhhhhhh, it's a secret!!

I'm wearing my RAWR kitty baby doll tee today. Under my sweater. (Hey, it's freakin' cold here.)

B especially cannot tell anyone. :P

A list of names I don't like being called at age 31-and-three-quarters*:

    Young lady
    Girl
    Chick
    Hun
    Kid
    Sweetie
    Bitch

(Does this make me a Republican?)

It's a relatively short list for now, but I'm quite certain it will grow in length as I grow older. Anyone else got ageist names they want to throw out?

Guilty conscience part 27

Does anyone else feel awkward about suddenly disliking your own music so much that you want to delete it from iTunes* but there's that little voice in your head that says you shouldn't because then you're wasting music and why'd you fork over that $14** if you were just going to leave the CD in a pile collecting dust?

Magician fools tricks robbers

The Smoking Gun and The Washington Post report that illusionist David Copperfield and two of his assistants were robbed at gunpoint after a show Sunday night.

According to IMDb, Copperfield turned his pockets inside-out to show the robbers there was nothing in them, but later revealed to police his pockets contained a cell phone, wallet, and passport.

Who the feck tries to rob David Copperfield? Dumb-ass-es, that's who. Mom and Pop Copperfield should be proud, David chose the correct career to help him through life.

Thanks to The DarkHat for alerting me to the story.

Lady troubles and cravings

Excuse me for not being very entertaining while I experience phantom pain in areas of me that should not be able to feel pain. (I won't elaborate on that. Or, did you want me to?)

Since it's my time of the month for rage from my body for not letting Hay impregnate me I guess it's as good a time as any to succumb to my cravings and present to you my flickr food set. Teaser:

That's an eggplant parm. I don't eat eggplant, long story, but that sammy still looks FIERCELY tasty.

PS - I've decided to swear off alcohol for the foreseeable future. I didn't have any alcohol for a whole year because of the back meds. On my recent conference trip I had one beer. I hated the way it made me feel, meds or no meds. I don't need it in my life, and I'd rather drink water or soda. So. No more alcohol for this chick. (*tweet*)

Johnny Cash crush song

This song is wrong, but it makes me love Johnny. In spirit, of course.

Go away from my window
Leave at your own chosen speed
I'm not the one you want, babe
I'm not the one you need
You say you're lookin' for someone
Who's never weak but always strong
To protect you and defend you
Whether you are right or wrong
Someone to open each and every door

But it ain't me babe
No, no, no, it ain't me babe
It ain't me you're lookin' for, babe

Go lightly from the ledge, babe
Go lightly on the ground
I'm not the one you want, babe
I'll only let you down
You say you're lookin' for someone
Who'll promise never to part
Someone to close his eyes to you
Someone to close his heart
Someone to die for you and more

But it ain't me babe
No, no, no, it ain't me babe
It ain't me you're lookin' for, babe

You say you're lookin' for someone
To pick you up each time you fall
To gather flowers constantly
And to come each time you call
And will love you for your life
And nothin' more

But it ain't me babe
No, no, no, it ain't me babe
It ain't me you're lookin' for, babe

Happy dance!

I am watching the tail end of Zathura so missed the American Idol elimination show. Thankfully, blogland keeps us posted. According to MJ's blog, Kellie was eliminated from Idol! WOOOOOT!!!!!!!!!!! In this case I'm super happy to have been wrong.

Woodpecker, anyone?

woodpecker

This one was mammoth. All of our other woodpeckers are 1/4 the size at best. This champ musta been eating his Wheaties!

A few more shots, including a full-sized photo, are over at flickr.

Update: P'nut has confirmed that this is a real woody (pileated) woodpecker. More examples are here and here.

Just so's ya know

I have an overabundance of “stuff” to blog about, but it all involves photos and I've already stuck way too many photos on the blog for now.

Tonight (actually, momentarily) Hay and I will be going shopping for our friends' baby's 1st birthday. I plan to purchase a Manhattan Toy for her. I'm très-très excited. I'm actually a bit giddy about the whole thing. :)

Tragedy loves company loves goofing off

It's really hard on me when I watch a reality-type show and am moved by it in whichever direction it cares to move me, then during the credits I see that one of the people in the show has died. The first time this happened was when I was watching the Women's Entertainment (We) show Single in New York. Do you know where I'm going with this? Probably. It was the beginning of 2002, or thereabouts, and I had just finished watching a marathon of the 2001 New York episodes. In the very last episode one of the ladies was so excited that she had finally found her true love in a big financial hot shot who worked at the WTC. Her parting comments were that they had planned to marry soon and start their lives together. Her fiance died on 9/11 when the WTC tower he was in (either North or South, I don't rightly remember which, but that's not the point) collapsed. I can't tell you how gutted I was when I read that on the screen. I started bawling. Once I stopped crying, or maybe in between sobs, I started craving information about him and his fiancee. I found all types of In Memoriam sites at the time, even a bit of an update from his fiancee.

Of course, the mind and the Internets are both fickle, so I now have no recollection of his name or nickname, and neither does Google or even We, who produces and airs the show. This makes me realize that peeking into people's lives for entertainment value is very short lived. I have been super busy at work for several weeks now, because this is our busy time, then at home because this is planting time. I have therefore had almost no time to keep up with the celeblogs. Day 1 I craved them like a wonderful cigarette or glass of 19-year-old Scotch, but now it's day I-don't-even-know-what and I check one or two sites maybe twice a day, if at all. I come away from them thinking, “why am I bothering?” I know those people are all important to someone, but it doesn't have to be me. Woah. You mean, the world will continue to revolve if I don't check 12 times an hour?! Really?! Are you sure? ... (Stef, help me out, am I sure? I heard a rumor that the world revolves elsewhere. ;)

I know I'm cured of my addiction for now. After my ortho adjustment this afternoon (I've moved from vertical Impalas to Bears with a box pattern! W00T!), instead of rushing home to curl up and catch up with my favorite celebrity gossip sites I went to Agway to purchase potato tubers, onion sets, seeds for the veggie gardens, and dried corn cobs for the squirrels. Once home I did laundry, dishes, cat treats, mail sorting, dinner, and tweaking of the eVite guest list for our porch party. What the hell have I become? Old lady! No. No, no no. Responsible! Yes. Okay. But not that responsible, because I really should be in bed right now but I'm goofing around on my blog. 8.D

That's messed up.

Manhole-turned-coffee propaganda. From Betta Don't.

If it wasn't clear enough already...

I love Stacy. Like, real love. Like, sister love. Like, bff love. She has gone legit so if you're interested in buying from her that'd rock.

As I said over at teh Gl1tt3r@t1, I have her photos all over my home and soon my office. She has “the eye” for photography. :)

Getting lucky

Your Lucky Underwear is Blue

You are caring and extroverted. You've made relationships your number one focus, and your lucky blue underwear can bring some balance to them.

You thrive in one-on-one situations. You are a good listener and a natural born therapist.

Sometimes you let the concerns of others become too important in your life, leading to stress and worry.

If you want more balance, put on your blue underpants. They'll help you take care of yourself first.

I am not an extrovert, although throw me in a room with a bunch of strangers and I'll chat them up. Throw me in that same room with a friend and strangers and I'll hang back and watch the show.

Everything else about my undies is dead on.

Thanks to Emily and Cariel at BarbieMartini for introducing me to my inner underwear.

I seriously need help. Seriously. No, really.

I just bought $200 worth of plants online. Before the last order has even arrived yet. I need to stop. When I say $200 I mean baby plants and bulbs, so you get a lot more for your dollar than if they're already mature. So, $200 for me just bought me all of the following.

I'm currently not sure when these will arrive:
    1 Dwarf Lemon Tree (household/indoor)
    2 Queen's Tears
    4 Forsythia
    24 Freesias
    1 Climbing Shell Plant
    12 Giant Hibiscus
1 Perennial Bargain colleciton (including a mixture of some of the following: Delphinium, Balloon Flower, Liatris, Hen and Chicks, Astilbe, Painted Daisies, Golden Sundrops, Carnations, Bleeding Heart, Hibiscus, Dianthus, Hollyhocks, Columbine, Achillea, Japanese Iris, White Butterfly)
    3 Silver Fountain Grass
    6 Dwarf Burning Bush
    2 Perennial Sweet Pea
    4 Red Bud Trees
6 Tree Bargains (whatever their surplus trees are is what I'll receive!)
    40 Gladiola Bulbs
    3 Red Wegelia Shrubs
1 Windflower - Riot of Color
    3 Red Maple Trees
    10 Cushion Mums
    1 Potted Weeping Cherry
    2 French Pussy Willows

Items purchased now to be delivered in September:

    Ice Stick Tulip Bulbs
    Arum italicum Plant
    Firecracker Flower
Cream of the Crop Tulips - Supers
    Flower Drift Daffodils
    White Lion Daffodils
    Replete Daffodils
    Tulip French Lace Mixture

*clappy hands* but guilty conscience.

Did someone call for a little Sunday Garden?

Cuz I got some.
