Lily Allen's dog returned mostly safe and sound

I didn't post about this before, because in my heart it felt wrong. Now that there is a happy ending for Maggie May there is something to be told. A new post on Lily's myspace blog (all content SIC):

Maggie May's return

Maggie May is back as you know , and I said I'd let you know some more details . I didnt want to go into to much detail but the rumours and allegations have started so here goes .

Last night we recieved a call from a man in the Leytonstone area . He said he had Maggie and had bought her as a present for his sister , he didnt really want to give her back but was persuaded by the reward . Some friends went to meet him a couple of hours later to see if it was Maggie . Luckily it was , so they left to get the money in order to get her back . They came back and were asked to follow the man and his two friends in a car for a few minutes away from the main road , they did this , handed over the money and got Maggie back . Once Maggie had been handed over the young men and woman offered to sell more puppies to my friends , which made us realise that these people were obviously in the business of moving dogs .

Now I feel guilty for having given these people money and contributing to their cruel business but I love that dog and felt I had no choice .

People have been speculating that because maggie was thin and had fleas she must have run away , MAGGGIE was tied up and in her cage in the back of a van and could not have escaped , she was stolen . The fact that she was very thin , makes me think she was mistreated ( ie not fed ) and the fact she was infested with fleas implies she was kept with other ( maybe stolen ) animals .

Im not going into anymore detail as this is now a matter for the RSPCA and the police . Thank you again to everyone who has helped me retrieve maggie . This has been an awful experience and people who are accusing me of neglecting my dog in some way , are distressing and hurtful , I hope this clears up the issue .

Lily

My comment to her:

Please don't feel guilty that you gave them money. Maggie May's safe return is the most important, and your exposure of the story behind her disappearance will lead to more good in the end. If you hadn't paid them, who knows what they would have done with her?! Give her lots of puppy kisses for us all.

Bad people exist in the world, and their option to be bad needs to be taken away from them. I hope these people are caught and placed in a facility that teaches them that cruelty to animals is a very slippery slope. If they never respect animals they will never respect humankind.

Just Drew

I just love her. I can't help it.

I hate peas, but not this kind

Please put down your beverage. Right now. Yup. Thanks. You'll thank me in 17 seconds.

I guess I'm gonna show this. I first saw this clip on The Soup a few weeks back, and conveniently forgot.about.it, but it resurfaced on gigglesugar:

Okay, you can pick up your beverage again. And, have some peas for dinner tonight. :) *giggle*

Did anyone watch Courteney Cox's new show, dirt? We don't know exactly why, but Hay and I weren't impressed.

The only character we enjoyed was the paranoid schizophrenic paparazzo.

Sally Field, an encore

I don't usually ask you to tell me why you like me so much, but I'm making an exception. Here are some questions I would like you to answer. Avi is the only person required to do this homework. For the rest of you it's extra credit.

1. Give me a nickname and explain why you picked it.

2. Am I loveable?

3. How long have you known me?

4. When and how did you first find my blog?

5. What was your first impression?

6. Do you still think that way about me now?

7. If I was an ice cream flavor, which would I be and why?

8. What makes me happy?

9. What makes me sad?

10. What song (if any) reminds you of me?

11. If you could give me anything what would it be?

12. Do you consider me a friend?

13. How often do you visit my blog?

14. Ever wanted to tell me something but couldn’t?

15. Would you make a move on me?
[You don't have to answer this, I'm leaving it in for the people who want to steal it. I'm not looking for dates, AVI. :P ]

16. Describe me in one word.

17. Do you feel that you could talk to me about anything and I would listen?

18. What do you like most about me/my blog?

19. What do you dislike most about me/my blog?

po-tay-to to-mah-to

Being at work kills my creativity.

Although, I did get to do an initial run-through of my video for Avi's old man birthday at the end of this month! That was fun. If he doesn't like it I'm disowning him, so I think he'll like it.

Unless you really, really, really, really, really like sun-dried tomatoes I recommend you stay away from the sun-dried tomato flavored Pringles Select chip. Not so good. However, I'm guessing by proxy that the other flavors are delicious. So, try one of those! Here's a picture of the cinnamon flavor, since this product is so new that there don't seem to be images of the product anywhere:

For those of you who like sweet potatoes I'm sure those look tasty. Me, I do not eat sweet potatoes. Not even in fry form. Sorry to disappoint, but more for you!

I was experiencing Perez withdrawal yesterday, but after his two-day NYE hangover he is back in full force today. I didn't even know one could experience a two-day hangover. I've never had a hangover for longer than a morning.

Lucie Blackman Trust . org

I am semi-addicted to the Scissor Sisters song I Don't Feel Like Dancin' at the moment, so I visited YouTube for videos. While there I found this PSA from them:

I had no idea who Lucie Blackman was so I went to lucieblackmantrust.org to find out more info, but ... it's not very well organized in terms of finding out what the trust is for, so I used wikipedia instead which explains that:

Lucie Blackman (d. 2000) was an English woman working illegally as a hostess in Roppongi, Tokyo, who disappeared mysteriously in July 2000. Her dismembered body was found a year later, buried in a shallow grave at a beach in Miura, Kanagawa in June 2001. She was 21 years old at the time of her death.

Property developer Joji Obara was charged for drugging, raping and killing Blackman, as well as the rapes of six other women and the murder of another hostess.

Okay, so... she was a hostess. BFD. Lots of people are hostesses. ... Ohhhhhhh, that kind of hostess:

A hostess bar is a bar or pub that employs primarily female staff and caters to adult males seeking drink and conversation. A similar and more recent establishment (specific to Japan) is a host bar.

Hostess bars can be found in many countries and take many forms. While some bars are tied to the sex trade, with hostesses being little more than prostitutes who serve drinks, at most establishments the sex is generally implied, not performed.

I feel educated now. Note to self: Don't be a hostess.

At the very bottom of the wikipedia entry there is a reference link titled Obara did not kill Blackman, lawyers say in closing statement. The case won't be decided upon until April, 2007.

The FAA has a headache.

I like the fact that CNN now does story highlights so that I don't actually have to take the time to read entire articles if I just want the facts, Ma'am. (DCMM, that wasn't directed at you. :) Like this article, for instance:

Do you believe in UFOs, alien lifeforms, etc.? Does my answer affect your readership? Did you see/read the ending to Contact? Then you know my answer. And, in case you'd not thought of it before: On any planet other than Earth we're considered the aliens.

The gift of scent

My nephew is newly single and has moved out of his ex's home back in with my brother and SIL. I helped my niece to hand out presents this year, so when I handed my nephew a small bag my dad got all excited and said, “that gift only makes sense if you know that we know about your new situation!” I had no idea what to expect after that, I thought it was going to be something for hunting, but ... well, it kinda was:

Ladies, if you're interested, my nephew is a quite handsome 20-something, tall, thin but muscular, played football in high school, and knows how to keep your engine purring. (He's a mechanic. I'm a dork.) Oh, and he smells good now? I've not smelled my own nephew, so I can't 100% vouch for that, but if you like Tag Midnight then I'm assuming he smells good.

Put on your red shoes and dance the blues

Did you want to see Avi dance?

Don't say I never gave you anything. There's a vote between him and Mr. Fab over at CP's blog. Go vote!

What did Ms. Britney Spears think of the dance-off?

That's what I remember, anyway. I'll keep better track in 2007.

As for movies...I paid waaaay too much attention to those. I categorized my movie watching by TV, DVD, and theater viewings. I never missed adding a movie to the list. They're all accounted for in 2006, because in 2005 I didn't keep good enough track and I vowed to keep better track. The numbers for 2006:

    Seen in the theater:    8
              Seen on DVD: 143
                  Seen on TV: 100
    __________________
               Grand total: 251

See the entire list of viewed movies in 2006 here. View the list of movies I saw from Netflix and in the theater in 2005 here (6 in the theater, 126 from Netflix).

Hay, Allie, Ripley, Georgie-girl, and I hope that you had a semi- to über-fantastic 2006 and that 2007 finds you and yours happy, healthy, wise, and able to keep on blogging. :)

And, in tribute to two most excellent bloggers, Helen and Maven, I wish you: Peace!

A fantastic postsecret idea

Based on this postsecret:

...a reader emailed Frank with the following idea:

    -----Email Message-----
    Sent: Sunday, December 31, 2006 1:09 AM

This postcard just gave me an idea:

I am going to buy a pinata and invite my friends to put their secrets in anonymously. Then we can blindfold each other, beat the shit out of it, watch our secrets rain down, and read them like candy. (I will email you some pictures).

The only friend I trust to do this with, besides Hay, is B. So, when we finally meet in person I think it's time to beat up a piñata. I do understand that if it's not my secret then its hers, and vice versa, but I feel closer to B than I have any girlfriend I've ever had in my life.

A year of random

Your meme, should you choose to accept it, is to dig into your blog archives and post the first sentence of the first post of each of the twelve months of 2006. Joanne and P'nut did this meme, but I need to switch it up a tad and preface by saying that I don't always have a sentence in the first post of the month so instead I am telling you the post title and the first sentence if one exists. Here goes:

January: Georgie snoozes in the new year with Bear on the kitty chair

February: This begs the question: ~ Where do bad boys go?

March: Birdies and Poppies love Regina King ~ We do!

April: Happy fish day! ~ In our 8th grade French class Madame told us all about poisson d'avril*, the tradition of affixing fish (pictures) to people's backs as an April Fool's day prank.

May: Ewwwwwwww! / What A Difference A Day Makes ~ That's what an Oxy pad took off my face last night after it was outside in the dirt all day.

June: Life, the universe, everything, and ...um... work. ~ At Avi's suggestion I am now in an air conditioned environment, no longer melting.

July: Murphy's (gd c-word* of a whoo-ore) law. ~ Your boiler will wait until Saturday afternoon of a holiday weekend to let you know about a soot build-up problem that has been around for quite some time now but is finally getting around to emitting black plumes of smoke out the outtake valve.

August: Bonne chance et merci pour tous les poissons! ~ Taking my first of two practice tests for exam 1 (of 2) today. Wish me luck! Or, wish me to fail, that works too.

September: Pink fan* ~ I've actually been feverishly refreshing my blog and reading my Yahoo mail for comments on the post below this one.

October: R and R ~ I've been a little stressed lately, so I was pretty psyched to have a weekend of fun.

November: Halloween countdown ~ Number of minutes Poppy left work early to greet trick-or-treaters: 120

December: Do me a favor... ~ Bring your hands up to your face, palms toward your nose, and sniff them.

Oh, I love my mind. It entertains me to no end.

In case you want to read the full original post just click on the name of any month.

Don't laugh at me...too hard.

I was just at my brother's house for Christmas gathering and I hurt myself. Playing Wii bowling. For reals, yo. So sad. But, a little hilarious. :)

I also got the following books:

For some reason I didn't have to explain why I wanted a post-apocalyptic book about zombies, but did have to explain the back cover of Amy's book:

My explanation: “She's just weird. I love her.”

ACW, in case you were wondering, I did ask for WWZ for Christmas because of you.

MTV tr3s

Does anyone else consider this promotional commercial one ginormous stereotype, or just me?

Stormy weather

We were going to travel to Hay's parents' house for a holiday get-together today but there is a snowstorm outside. I ventured out to put some outgoing mail in the mailbox and I almost needed a rescue crew.
