Moose season

Please don't traumatize yourself if you just can't bear to see dead animals. I took this photo through the front windshield as we were driving to visit far away relatives. Click here to see the smaller photo; click here to see the slightly larger (cropped from an original that is not uploaded).

As long as they use all the parts and eat all the parts they can, I don't have a problem with it...it is those that just hunt for a head to hang on the wall that make me want to hang their heads on the walls.

I woke up to my neighbor hanging a rather large female moose by her hind legs on a winch two mornings ago.

The bleeding and gutting is by far my very favorite part of moose season. Yeah. Not.

My favorite bloody-and-guts memory is from age 8 when Mom and her boyfriend got a house together that had a garage. One of his kids went hunting and shot a deer. The deer was strung up in the garage and gutted directly over the cement floor -- no tarp, no newspaper, nothin'. The blood drained directly onto the floor and left a permanent stain. Ugh. Yuck.
