-- President Bush will announce this week plans to cut U.S. troops in Iraq by about 30,000 -- to pre-'surge' levels -- by next summer, a senior administration
official confirms to CNN.

That's interesting.

I'm proudest of my tree analogy in the title.

I would have gone with "Bush trimming".

Avi, also a good one! I'm leaving it how it is, though. Means something more profound if I leave it as is.

Oh, I like your headline. Avi's is good, too...but I like yours.

Thanks, Liss. :)

see... the way to make people think you are reducing the number of troops is to first increase the number of troops... then... when you return to your original troop level, people think you are trimming... nice

Why is everyone happy that Bush said that he is pulling troops out next summer? What he really means is that he is keeping the surge going for at least another year.

And Kristen, what better way to talk about victory over terrorists than doing it on 9/11?

General Petraeus testified to congress "...in the past 8 months, we have considerably reduced the areas in which Al Qaeda enjoyed sanctuary. We have also neutralized 5 media cells, detained the senior Iraqi leader of Al Qaeda-Iraq, and killed or captured nearly 100 other key leaders and some 2,500 rank-and-file fighters. Al Qaeda is certainly not defeated; however, it is off balance and we are pursuing its leaders and operators aggressively."

That's a lot of dead bad guys.
